Prairie Creek Shoppes
Prairie Creek Shoppes, located at the intersection of Highway P and Highway Z, is a 102,000 SF, multi-tenant, neighborhood retail development anchored by a 50,000 square foot Piggly Wiggly grocery store.
Opened in October 2004, the center brings a much needed retail presence to the northern side of Oconomowoc and the expanding residential community in the surrounding Lake Country area. Other tenants at Prairie Creek Shoppes include a Cost Cutters hair salon, a One Hour Martinizing drycleaners, a Chinese restaurant, a nail salon and a specialty gift store.
Adjacent to the center, Wangard has developed multi-family housing, The Preserve at Prairie Creek. In conjunction with this retail development, and on the same property, the ownership group created a large wetland in place of an existing smaller wetland.
The creation of this wetland was the first such project of this type to emerge from a newly enacted Wisconsin State Law regarding wetland development; the new law provides for replacing every acre of wetlands that is “filled” with 1.5 acres of new wetlands. This project created new wetlands and restored a previously impacted wetland in conjunction with protecting an existing trout stream on the property, significantly enhancing the natural habitat on the site.
